Staff Development Committee Progress Report--March 2006
The Strategy & Planning Council identified three priorities for the Staff Development Committee’s first tasks: training in (1) meeting management and (2) project management and (3) the development of the library into a learning organization. The Staff Development Committee met with university experts in each of the subjects and conducted a literature review. We created two project teams, one to devise a program for meeting management training to take place for all library staff in the late spring, and a second team designed to conduct a journal club in the summer on the subject of the learning organization. We also conducted a survey of committee chairs, library directors and department supervisors to identify training needs for their groups.
In April, the committee will launch a project team for project management training. Other priorities for the next six months will be an evaluation of New Horizons, our self-help technology learning program; updating the library training page to include sources for classes; with LITS, writing procedures for requesting training for library programs (Mulberry, for example) and to continue to work toward organizational learning in the library.
