Library Directors Council Progress Report--March 2006
The Library Directors Council focused on library services across the library. An inventory of library space and services was completed in conjunction with the Space Utilization and Planning Committee. This provides, in summary form, a look at all the libraries’ services by service, library by library.
The Council is sponsoring the Faculty Delivery Proposal Project Team, anticipating a proposal f or a system-wide service in May. And the Lib QUAL survey results from that Project Team will directly inform the work of the libraries in understanding the perceptions of our services.
The Council has begun drafting a statement of a service policy and guidelines for service provision that can be used to develop service training. The policy/guidelines will be based on previous LMC discussions, the customer service training program developed by Sharon Weiner and Dennis Clark, the deliberations of the Service Quality Improvement Team, and external statements on service. Document drafts are expected this spring for review and comment by library staff.
A major function of the Library Directors Council is to share information about what’s going on in each of our libraries. Discussions have included emergency planning, building and renovation plans in Divinity and Management, budget and staff issues, photocopiers and printing, ways to promote the VU e-Archive, the future of geographic information services support, various library patron privileges, copyright and reserves, and training priorities.
