Collections Committee Progress Report--March 2006

The committee prepared guidelines governing submissions to the VU e-Archive. The guidelines address who is eligible to submit materials and what categories of materials are eligible for acceptance. We forwarded the proposed guidelines to the Digital Library Steering Committee for endorsement.

The committee is also creating a gifts policy and procedure for the entire library system. Members are currently reviewing a draft document. Upon completion of this review and revisions, we will share the draft with bibliographers across the system for their evaluation before forwarding to the Strategy and Planning Council for approval.

The committee is considering subscriptions to Lexisnexis State Capitol and Westlaw Campus. An administrator in the Medical Center requested State Capitol, and several libraries are willing to share the cost. The Law Library plans to cancel its subscription to Westlaw Campus, but is willing to participate in a shared subscription with other libraries. We are currently developing a method to apportion the subscription costs of both databases.

The committee developed key points to include in the library’s responses to collections-related questions in a reaccreditation survey.
