Circulation and Access Committee Progress Report--March 2006
The CAC created two forums to facilitate communication among all interested staff engaged in circulation and reserve functions. Email distribution lists were created for communication with the larger groups.
A subcommittee was created to review reserves procedures and discuss copyright issues associated with reserves. A real need for documented clarification of the university’s copyright policy as it relates to reserves was expressed; discussion resulted in the conclusion that the policy is as clear as it is likely to be, i.e., permissions are to be sought for all copyrighted material for e-reserves. Further pursuit of copyright issues with the Legal Office seemed counter-productive at this point. The subcommittee is now working on procedures for creating reserve records which will be adopted by all of the libraries; assistance is being provided by the Cataloging Team.
A subcommittee on training and documentation is hard at work identifying processes that can be standardized and documented across the libraries and preparing for training for implementation of the new java client for ACORN.
Discussions of practical circulation policy privileges and interpretations is a standard part of the groups work, as is staying current with what’s going on with copiers, printing, and the Card Office.
