Unicorn Oracle Migration
Why do we need to migrate to Oracle?
- Many of the new SirsiDynix products in development will require Oracle
- Oracle is an industry standard database
- Increased access to the bibliographic records
- Ability to better integrate services between Unicorn and other systems (on-campus and off)
When will the migration start?
- Test migration planned for September
- Full conversion planned for the week of January 7th 2008
Will the migration require down time?
- Some downtime will probably be required but we are unsure how much at this time. The maximum would be a full week. .
What services will be available during the conversion?
- We hope to be able to use the backup server, however we will not know exactly what is available until after the test conversion in September.
What is needed to prepare for the migration?
- Testing, testing, testing!
- During the same /nearly same timeframe we will be beta testing Symphony
How will the status of the migration be communicated?
- What would be best? Wiki, email, web page, staff newsfeed, etc?
