We will be a learning organization in which staff acquire new skills at an increased pace to keep current with technological change.
In 2006-2007, the Staff Development Committee
•revised the Training pages on the StaffWeb to give staff easy access to our online training resources as well as free or modestly expensive resources for training.
•created and conducted system-wide meeting management training that addressed needs identified in the strategic planning process.
• created and conducted system-wide Java Workflows training and took on responsibility for other system-wide training.
• created and conducted project management training for library leaders, a need identified in the strategic planning process.
• evaluated ElementK training and provided access to online training for all library staff.
• conducted a needs and interest survey for unit managers and directors and made plans to survey the library staff. These surveys are designed to help us plan for future training needs.
• created a reference library for meeting management and Java Workflows training. This includes materials and staff who can conduct ongoing training in these areas.
• created a training checklist for new employees to support consistency in staff orientation and training.
• received an anonymous donation to create an endowed fund designed for staff development. The SDC began work on creating policy to use the interest from this fund, which will begin payouts in June 2008. They also promoted the fund during the Faculty/Staff Campaign to encourage donations to the fund.
