Library Guides Project Team Update:
Amy Stewart-Mailhot (Leader), Jodie Gambill, Robert Rich, and Larry Romans have agreed to serve on this project team. They plan to begin work the week of June 16. They will prepare a needs assessment document first.
Discover Library Project Team Update:
The team met for the first time on June 6 and divided into two subgroups. Subgroup 1 will do usability testing, while subgroup 2 will analyze statistics to determine how DiscoverLibrary is currently being used. The team will aim to complete its work by July 15.
The DiscoverLibrary search box will appear on the Heard Library homepage soon.
Bibliographic Management Software:
Sue Erickson gave a report to LDC on various software packages (EndNote, RefWorks, Zotero, Reference Manager, etc.). She also contacted peer institutions to inquire about how this software is funded and supported, discovering that there are many models in use. LDC has decided that there will be no trials or changes until after a new University Librarian has been appointed. A small group will be formed from Research Services to create instructions for posting to current products.
Annual Report:
The annual report for RSC is due on 7/15/08. It will be drafted on the wiki by all members of the committee. Sue will assign each member a month's worth of minutes to look through. Sara Manus will summarize the activities of the Reference and Instruction Forum.
Updates from the Libraries:
Science and Engineering will be getting new paint and furniture this summer. Staff are currently working on orientation materials to post to the web.
Central has formed and Instruction and Outreach Planning Group. They will also be searching for a term librarian to work reference and do web updating through the end of the year.
Management is currently searching for a director. Cynthia Kutka's position will be filled after a new director is hired. The reference collection is being heavily weeded in favor of online sources, and journal subscriptions are also being reviewed.
Peabody's renovation is underway. A new learning commons and staff offices are being built. The staff are planning for fall instruction, and are recruiting graduate students to assist with proctoring of the iSkills and CLA exams.
Special Collections is working on several grant applications and assisting summer researchers. A new web page will be launched soon.
Music will be welcoming Patrick Orr as an intern. He will begin work on July 1, and will be with the staff until the end of December.
