Minutes
Present: Jason Battles, Melinda Brown, Sue Erickson, Cindy Franco, Teresa Gray, Janet Hirt, Cynthia Kutka, Kitty Porter, Robert Rich, and Flo Wilson.
- Primo update - Two testing teams formed consisting of 17 staff members. Holling Smith-Borne and Rick Stringer-Hye selected as project leads.
- SirsiDynix ILS changes - The company's ILS development now focused on Unicorn.
- Library toolbars and AskUs - Committee to investigate the software used by Science to produce their toolbar with thoughts about creating other toolbars that include the AskUs button.
- Webpage presentation of research databases - Members will provide examples from other library websites as a first step towards making improvements. There is a desire to sort the key databases for each subject by importance rather than alphabetical order or otherwise denote their priority. Another idea was to add anchor links for subjects at the top of the current databases page.
- Acorn enrichment - No additional cost to add data since it is being purchased for Primo. Some concern among members about keeping Acorn "clean". Committee recommends waiting to add enrichment data to Acorn.
- CUIL Update - Melinda informed the committee of a proposal to Vanderbilt Visions for a 50 minute session for all incoming freshman on library services. Also an effort underway to get list of useful library tips from student workers that they wish they had known as freshman.
- Wireless access for non-Vanderbilt people - Only Vanderbilt faculty, students or staff should have the SSID. The SSID should not be given to non-Vanderbilt people. Vanderbilt users can get the SSID via the Vanderbilt website after logging in with VUnetID and password.
- Open URL generator for OAK - Cindy informed the committee that this tool was nearing completion and that proxy authentication was already working.
- SFX services - Kitty explained that some SFX targets have multiple services that we are not currently using. For example, getAuthorEmail is an option with some targets. The committee was tasked to review possible additions to the services when available. Kitty will try to make a test view available to evaluate potential changes.
