RSC Updates:
- RSC Group Wiki is now available for posting agendas, minutes, and other documents.
- Group consensus was that the exact searching for e-journal locator should be removed by Dale.
- LIB QUAL survey will be conducted in spring 2006. Janice Adlington will lead the project team with other library representatives. Biomedical will participate with this survey. The survey this time includes questions about each individual library.
- It was announced that the Library Directors Council would create a service expectations project and develop a project team in the near future.
- Reaccredidation Review and Library Instruction- Melinda Brown will be contacting all the libraries about their methods of library instruction which she will formulate into a summary document. Melinda needs the data very shortly since the reaccredidation committee requests the report by December 21, 2005.
- Linking to Ask Us from databases- Sue Erickson mentioned that she had been following this new concept on various listservs. The group decided that the Libraries should have a trial period using the Pro Quest database to see how things go. Sue will be working with Jason Battles on this project. (On a side note, Paul commented that a new VU Web presence, entitled Virtual Life recently debuted. He thought it might be a good place to link and promote some of the library databases.)
- Melinda Brown reported that she and Jody Combs met with the executive committee of the Center for Teaching. The CFT is very interested in collaborating with the Heard Libraries in terms of instruction. One action item that they are considering is that of a faculty survey. Melinda will keep the group updated on further developments.
- Small Grants Initiative from Provost- Flo stated that she had received word from Howard Sandler that Vanderbilt faculty were encouraged to submit grants proposals for programming in the upcoming Freshmen Commons.
Agenda Items:
- Instruction Goal
- It was decided that the focus of all instruction endeavors will be on library users.
- A small instruction planning team will be created to assist Melinda in making recommendations on what instruction action items should be addressed this year.
- Flo will send out an email asking for volunteers for this planning team.
- Other Activities for the Year- the group outlined those goals which should be a priority in the coming year:
- Conducting a needs assessment
- Assessing our current services
- Balancing job responsibilities and new job demands by focusing on what we are currently doing
