RSC Agenda Items:
- Primo Updates- Jody Combs
Authentication change- Users will be able to use their VUnet ID and password when accessing their ACORN (Unicorn) accounts. The change will exclude alums for now but that will change in the future. The Communications Committee will assist in promoting the change to patrons.
Jody demonstrated the new search features with the Primo system. Version 1.0 will be available to the public. The team is getting close in having library staff involvement with beta testing, etc. Flo requested that RSC members promote the upcoming testing in their respective libraries so members that can be found to participate with focus groups.
- SFX- Kitty Porter
Kitty was looking for more feedback about last November’s SFX presentation. The Team is looking to see if an additional session is necessary. All comments should be forwarded to Kitty.
- Reference and Instruction Forum- Sue Erickson
Two new members to the forum planning committee are Sara Beutter (Music) and Sarah Byrd (Central). Sue and Melinda continue their role as committee members.
Sue reported on the good turnout for the December, 2006 forum session and promoted the January 18, 2007 session at 2pm. Jacob Thornton; new GIS coordinator will give a presentation on GIS. The group is currently planning the February activity. Any ideas for future sessions can be directed to any member of the Forum group.
- CUIL /Instruction Update- Melinda Brown & Leslie Foutch
Melinda spoke briefly on the Committee for Undergraduate Information Literacy which was to have a three hour retreat on January 16, 2007. Leslie updated everyone on her fall 2006 embedded librarian experience, and mentioned that she and Dr. Brian Griffith will be talking about their experience at the 2007 LOEX conference to be held in May.
- Camtasia- Flo Wilson
Flo is working with Karen Montefiori from ITS about possibly obtaining site licenses to Camtasia. Flo wanted to know how many copies each library would need. Leslie mentioned that the Peabody Tech Team had been asked to conduct a brown bag session on Camtasia since they had been using it to create instructional tutorials. Flo asked that everyone take a look at the Peabody tutorials, if they had not already done so.
- Laptop Cart- Flo Wilson
A cart complete with 20 laptops and projector was purchased with reassessment funds. The cart is considered a mobile instruction classroom and can be used by any library staff member. The cart will be housed at Science & Engineering. Flo mentioned that no policies regarding the cart had been created so the group talked logistics and what its purpose was. It was decided that the cart will be used for library instruction use only and on a first come, first serve basis.
- OAK Update- Cindy Franco
Cindy mentioned that the anti-plagiarism software, Safe Assignment and Turn it In were now added to OAK, although the packages were not marketed as anti-plagiarism software but as paper submission tools. Students can use either software tool to check their papers before turning them into their instructor. Thus far, ten faculty members have shown interest in the new feature.
Next meeting: Monday, February 5, 2007 at TBA Goldberg Conference Room
