Minutes:

Review Guide to Libraries (Sue)

Discussion of needed updates to the “Guide for Libraries” included: add DiscoverLibrary; add a link to “About the Library” in the “Access to Info” section; remove the url for the online version of the Guide; add a link to library-wide study spaces and equipment availability at each library; add a url for remote access to the “Library Access and Use Policies” section.

Additional web pages and/or updates which need to be created for the guide include: create a library-wide study space (we were later reminded that this already exisits) and equipment availability web page; and add Music and Special Collections to the Subject Librarians page (Sue agreed to send an INFORM about this).

Sue will work up a draft with the proposed changes and bring it back to the group for review. A formal review group will be formed in January which can make a more in-depth study of needed changes to the Guide.

DiscoverLibrary Mock-Ups (Sue)

A mock-up of the next DicoverLibrary integration on the Heard Library home page was discussed. The group recommended having two search boxes – one for DiscoverLibrary and one for Acorn. The DiscoverLibrary box will have a caption labeled “Search DiscoverLibrary.” The Acorn box will keep it’s “Search Acorn” caption. Space will be added between the two search boxes to distinguish between the two.

The Digital Library Steering Committee will soon form a project team to guide implementation issues for DiscoverLibrary.

SFX Journal Info Button on E-Journal Locator Results Page (Kitty)

If a user clicks on “View Journal History” next to a journal title, the user still has to scroll down the pop-up window page in order to find the actual journal history section. Also, the Info button displays the same information as the “View Journal History” link. Can we consolidate these into one option on the page?

A suggestion was made to change the default from Table view to Details view, since this latter view lists all previous journal titles. Another suggestion was to make the pop-up box bigger so that users would have to do less scrolling to find the information they were looking for. Julie will check with Dale Poulter to see what the options are for dealing with this issue.

Library Guides Project Team Description (Sue)

The Charge for the Library Guides Project Team was reviewed and approved by the group. Jodie and Robert have volunteered to serve on this team. The current plan for implementation of the Guide is to convert it to the system over Summer 2009 for use in Fall 2009.

Reference and Instruction Forum on DiscoverLibrary

Sara Manus has volunteered to be the new convener for the Forum. The Forum planning group will come up with a meeting time for a session on best practices for incorporating DiscoverLibrary in reference and instruction activities. A suggestion was made to discuss recent experiences with this topic rather than focusing on best practices.

Welcome Activities for Fall 2008

Members of the group announced welcome activities and/or orientations which are being scheduled for Fall 2008.

Library News

Members of the group shared news and upcoming events at their respective libraries.
