AGENDA
* InfoTrac default search (Julie/Sue)
RSC members had been polled previously for a preference for basic or advanced search as the default for databases on the InfoTrac interface. The votes were tied, but since more justification was supplied in the votes for the advanced search, the group agreed to have the default changed to this from the subject search, which was not favored by any of the members. Julie will make the change.
* SFX menu (Julie)
RSC approved the proposed activation of e-books in the SFX knowledgebase, which will make possible the fulltext FindIt@VU display for e-books found via SFX-enabled databases. The Order Services team will be retrospectively activating titles as a long-term project. Please use the FindIt@VU INFORM to report problems with fulltext identification of e-books, as you would for e-journal titles. Activating the e-book titles in the SFX knowledgebase will not affect the display of e-book titles in Acorn or of titles in the e-journal A to Z list.
At the last RSC meeting, changes were discussed regarding the SFX menu content. Further discussion is tabled until more is known about the umlaut service that is being explored by the SFX group. RSC will be consulted at a later time for input on the menu.
* Committee review update (Sue) We will continue in our current configuration through the fall semester while strategic planning is underway and the library's committee structure is reviewed.
Sue encouraged everyone to be thinking about major concerns regarding DiscoverLibrary.
* What's new? (all)
Highlights from the “What’s new?” round robin reports: Central Library’s new webpage has been launched. Michelle Nielsen-Ott has joined Julie’s E-resources and Serials Management Team With the migration to Verde, it is a logical time to reconsider subject and type categories for the databases. Julie will bring this to RSC for consideration at a later date. Staff in the Law Library served as exam proctors. Peabody will serve as a testing center for IC3, a new flavor of learning assessment. We now have access to the Foundation Directory Online database (see Staffnews item for further information).
