1. DiscoverLibrary

a. Items to cover in training for front lines staff

-- Personal options (email, logging in, etc.)
-- Searching (Boolean expressions – perhaps include examples on front page)
-- Include names of databases that aren’t being searched
-- Explain what “Quicksets” are and how they work

b. QuickSets

-- Dale is working on the QuickSets and options (not all databases can be searched through MetaLib)
-- What should the language be used in the “More Information” section regarding the databases that “don’t work” and what to do about them
-- Perhaps include a link to the full list of databases for a topic, rather than a list of those that didn’t work.

c. Reference & Instruction Forum discussion

-- This could be a platform to quickly answer how to handle questions
-- The topic could be centered around working with DiscoverLibrary
-- Perhaps Jody and/or Suellen should be invited to answer questions
-- The discussion should be “proactive” – negative comments should be left out

2. Update on the Commons Service Evaluation Team

The team reports to the Library Directors Council and has a report due by March 30. The report should outline items that can be accomplished by Fall and those further out. The larger team consists of four groups: Library (student feedback), Virtual (linking to online resources), Houses, and Commons Center.

3. Review committee charge and role of committee members

The member make-up was reviewed with the following requests: strike the “Metadata Librarian” since the position was never filled, keep the “Systems Librarian” slot since it has been proven beneficial in the past, and to consider adding the “e-Resources Librarian” position to the list of members. Sue will take this suggestion to the Library Directors Council for approval.

The group as a whole needs to be better about disseminating information to their respective groups – some information has not made it to all staff.
