Present: Chris Benda, Melinda Brown, Sue Erickson, Leslie Foutch, Jodie Gambill, Teresa Gray, Steven Jordan, Cynthia Kutka, Robert Rich, and Amy Stewart-Mailhoit.

Absent: Cindy Franco, Kitty Porter and Flo Wilson.

RSC Agenda Items:

1. AlphaSearch display- Jodie

Jodie demonstrated the new interfaces for databases and metasearch results. There are also 3 embedded search boxes that individual libraries can use for their respective Web pages. Jodie will send those links to the committee for review.

Sue mentioned that AlphaSearch has been named Discover Library.

2. Survey of bibliographic management software at Divinity- Chris

Chris conducted a survey of Divinity students, faculty and staff to see what bibliographic management packages they are using. He received 60 responses. The response breakdown was:

	17 faculty
	42 students
	2 staff

Endnote emerged as the most highly used package, with Zotero coming in second.

Chris also developed a very informational Web page on bibliographic management software. The URL is: http://divinity.library.vanderbilt.edu/bibmanager.html

3. EndNote Web training & Miscellaneous- Sue

Those RSC members who took the EndNote Web training recently offered are willing to train others on the software. The consensus amongst those who took the training is that EndNote Web is more useful for undergraduates, than for faculty and graduate students.

Sue also mentioned that there had been no decision made on a trial of RefWorks. Once the new Electronic Resources Librarian is hired, it has been determined that this is something that he/she will be in charge of facilitating.

Leslie mentioned that Peabody had looked into offering a Zotero workshop for the spring semester but decided against it after seeing that there were not that many advantages for students’ use. They will develop a Zotero handout instead which Leslie will send to other RSC members.

4. Reference and Instruction Forum Update-Sue

Sue reported that Cynthia, Kitty, Melinda and herself met about spring Reference & Instruction forum possibilities. It was decided that they would group the sessions into themes, and send a survey out so forum members can rate the sessions they would most likely attend. The survey should be distributed by the end of December 2007.

5. Clock in e-classroom-Sue

Sue said a staff member has asked that the clock in the e-classroom be moved so instructors and students can actually see the clock. A discussion developed and it was decided that a second clock should be added to the classroom on the wall opposite the screen. Sue will take care of this action item.

6. Writing Studio/Library Collaboration Meeting- Sue

Sue reported that a group of Heard librarians met with the director of the Writing Studio and members of her staff. A good discussion emerged on the commonality of issues that affect both units. It was suggested a member from the Writing Studio visit during a future Reference/Instruction Forum activity so library staff can fully understand the operations of the Writing Studio.
