Recommendations:
- One of the date fields needs to be enabled for editing so that we can record the date that is shown on the piece. (Some communities have this, others do not)
- One or two of the members of the Metadata Committee should be able to make changes to the DSpace software.
- Catalogers/Metadata editors need to be able to edit the metadata page even after an item has been approved.
- Each file submitted should be in PDF format if possible.
- For each collection and, in some cases, each title in the collection, there should be a short description of the material contained therein.
- For each collection and, in some cases, each title, there should be a contact person specified to contact with questions.
- Subject headings should be formatted such that subdivisions are divided by the punctuation: <space>--<space>. eg. United States -- Civil War
- Diacritics are problematic in the current version of DSpace. If diacritics are entered in the metadata and the term is searched without the diacritics, it will not be found. We need to determine the most appropriate method of dealing with this problem, if anything, until we can upgrade to the latest version 1.4.2 later this summer. We are presently at version 1.3.x.
