Present: Nancy Boggess-Korekach, Mary Charles Lasater, Jeff Taylor.
- We went through the procedures document that NBK compiled from the different sections where work on ETD's is being done and made some changes and additions.
Action items:
- MCL will add a paragraph noting the work done by the original catalogers.
- Recommendation that the creation of call/copy for the CDROM be moved from LITS to TS Copy Cataloging.
- Recommendation that the call number be non-specific. NBK will check with Peg Earheart at Annex and Teresa Gray in Special Collections to see if they would have any objections to this. NOTE: NBK spoke with Peg on 4/25 and Peg was adamant that the call numbers be kept since the CDROM's are shelved in call number order at the Annex.
- Recommendation that the burning of the CDROM's be reconsidered since we have the ProQuest copies and the LOCKSS project as backups for the ETD files. In the meantime, we would recommend that the burning of the CDROM's be done elsewhere than in LITS. NBK will talk to Roberta first about this and see if there is a logical place in Technical Services where this could be done. Other considerations would be to have it done at the Annex or in Special Collections.
- Questions for meeting with Jody Combs (4/24):
- Explanation of the LOCKSS project and how it affects our ability to preserve the ETD files.
- Are CDROM copies really needed for preservation purposes?
- Explanation of the Metadata page and how much modification could possibly be done by catalogers in order to provide more standardized access points.
- Questions for meeting with Liz Leis from the Graduate School (date not set):
- When will withheld ETD's be released and how will catalogers be notified?
- How do we know when an ETD that was restricted has been unrestricted?
- Can we edit the metadata page?
- Other questions may come up after our meeting with Jody.
