Met to discuss our charge and what our first steps will be. We agreed on the following:
- NBK will set up meeting with Jody to talk about the LOCKSS project and how ETD's are archived with that. Questions for Jody include how the ETD's are harvested by LOCKSS and other search engines. Are the PDF files themselves searchable or just the metadata sheets, and if only the metadata sheets, what fields of the sheets? Also we would like his take on the preservation issues with CDROM archive copies.
- NBK will set up a lunch meeting (if possible) with Liz Leis from the Graduate School to discuss the beginning process of ETD creation and the creation/editing of the metadata sheets. Other questions for Liz include restricted vs. unrestricted ETD's and where that is going for the future; do students have the option of not making their ETD's available to Proquest?
- MCL will try and get a copy of a document used to contact students about their preferred use of their name for authority control purposes.
- NBK will send MCL and JT the url to the ETD website so that they can see what the students see.
- NBK will create an ETD folder in the Everyone directory where each of us will put our written procedures for our part of the ETD processing. We will go over these procedures at our next meeting on Apr. 24th, 10:00am, GLB.
- NOTES: NBK was able to set up a meeting with Jody for Apr. 24th, 2:30pm at Baker. MCL obtained the document discussed and emailed it to NBK & JT.
