Primo Update: Roberta The announcement about Vanderbilt's participation will be out today. The non-disclosure agreement is in place and we should continue to be careful about talking about the inner workings of the system with persons outside the Vanderbilt Library community. Dale and Marshall are working on the extraction of data from Unicorn and TV News Archives. The Normalization Project Team is working on the PNX mapping. The team, consisting of Mary Charles, Catherine, Nancy, Chris Benda and Sue Erickson, met with Jody last week to go over their charge and they are scheduled to meet tomorrow to start the mapping discussion. They will be looking at FRBRization rather than deduping because of the low percentage of duplicates in Acorn. The Metadata Committee will be updated after each Project Team meeting and will be consulted regularly for input. Record enrichment is going to be considered separate from the mapping issues. Enrichment will include table of contents, reviews, summaries and comments. Roberta will be heading up this effort since it will involve consulting with various vendors. She will be discussing the issues involved with the Metadata Committee as well as the Research Services Committee. Metalib has already been purchased and will be implemented along with Primo. John Haar will be leading a Project Team on this to be formed in the future.
Series in Acorn Project Team Marshall has composed a draft of a plan for future handling of series, but there are interim procedures already in place and being used in Technical Services. The draft of the preliminary report will be presented to the Strategy and Planning Council and he will also send a copy to the Metadata Committee. No further action is expected until after ALA.
ETD Project Team The Project Team's recommendations have been sent to Strategy and Planning Council and they will be discussing them in their meeting tomorrow.
Java WF Training Linda Tesar reported that the Acorn upgrade to 3.1 will take place on the weekend of June 15th and training will begin the next week. There will be several times for each of the general and cross training sessions. She said that the cataloging sessions will probably not start that first week. She handed out the list of topics to be covered in the cataloging training and asked for feedback from the group. One suggestion was to add diacritics to the advanced training section. Cataloging trainers are Mary Charles, Catherine, Linda, Eileen, and Molly Dahl. Linda pointed out that the Library Directors have agreed that the final cut-off date for Vanderbilt using the old C Client will be Oct. 31, 2006. Zora asked if LITS will have to go to each individual machine to install the updated Java client. Linda will check on this and let us know. After the end of the training, there will be a list of staff available for questions. Catherine also pointed out that the help files in the Java client are very good and staff should consult them as a first option when they have questions.
- Roberta urged all of us to attend the up-coming open house on the Test Pilot testbed project.
- Next meeting: July 10th in the Baker Conference Room.
