DOIs are assigned by the original publisher and are persistent. If the publisher changes the URL will not. The DOI URl consist of a series of numbers. It is possible these URL do not makes sense to a user and the possibility of creating alternative text was discussed.
ACTION: Further inquiry is required to find out:
- If using DOIs serves the user in the long run.
- If there are any advantages or disadvantages
- Who is providing them and how many of our records have them
- Ronee will find out how CNRI handles are used with the VU e-Archive
- Pete reported “Who Speaks for the Negro” needs some work on subject headings and abstracts. The Gilbert Moses oral histories are missing. Response to this digital collection has been very positive. A records for “Who Speaks…” has been created for Acorn and two exist in OCLC.
