Roberta Winjum gave a presentation on the VU-e-Archive. The database uses DSpace, an open-access software developed by MIT. She showed us both the public interface and the technical interface including the metadata form. Ann Ercelawn and Chris Benda are inputting Professor Barsky’s articles from his journal Social discourse. Roberta has spoken to many people in the Vanderbilt community that have expressed an interest in submitting documents to the Vu e-Archive, but few have followed through. There is an expectation that as more documents are added, momentum will build.

Metadata Committee meeting minutes: 2/20/2006

VU e-Archives Roberta Winjum gave a presentation on the VU-e-Archive.

ETD Database and Procedures Roberta submitted a proposal to put together a project team to review and improve the ETD database and procedures. Recommendations for the team were Nancy Boggess-Korekach, chair, Mary Charles Lasater, and Jeff Taylor. Other stake holders such as the Graduate School, Special Collections, and Divinity will be consulted. The proposed timeline in the draft proposal will have to be revised to accommodate the May graduation crunch. Roberta will get feedback from Nancy before taking this to the Strategy and Planning Council.

Acorn bibliographic Content Policy There was time for only a very brief discussion of this topic. It will be picked up again at the March meeting. Roberta had submitted to the committee for review a “Draft Acorn Bibliographic Content Policy.” In broad terms, there are the questions of what Acorn is supposed to be and what goes into Acorn. More concretely, there are questions such as the issues related to loading sets, including what committees and groups should be consulted.
