Application Profiles
Need to set up a workgroup to develop an application profile for the VU e-Archive.
A draft charge had been previously distributed by Roberta. Proposed membership was discussed.
Roberta will take the draft charge to the Strategy and Planning Committee for their approval.
Once S&P has approved, Roberta will check with proposed committee members and their supervisors to verify their interest and availability to serve on the committee.
MESH authority File
Once a year we get a notice that the update to MESH is available. We have recently received that notice. Unlike LC, which is updated monthly, MeSH are updated annually, and purchased as a separate item. Medical is still assigning MeSH headings to local items. Not added to OCLC. Still adding MeSH terms to Acorn.
Do we need to update the authority file? Yes, but there are options.
Two options for purchase: whole file or items with significant changes. Last time we purchased and loaded the whole file. Mary Charles is recommending that this time we purchase and load only the file of changed headings.
The file is available at nominal cost from Marcive.
The committee approved the purchase and loading of the file of major updates to the MeSH authority file. They also agreed that Mary Charles should continue to work with MeSH headings as her time permits.
Future Topics
Some topics were suggested for future consideration by the Metadata committee:
- National versus local cataloging
- Demonstration of Primo
- Nuremburg collection at Law Library
- E-book collections/cataloging
The group decided to hold monthly meetings for the foreseeable future. Next meeting to be announced, for early March.
