- Mapping collections to DiscoverLibrary - progress
- The mapping group has not heard back from Holling in the Music Library on the issue of what to call GMA in DiscoverLibrary and where it should be mapped. Because the Global Music Archive is very close to being completed the committee decided to call it Global Music Archive and not East Africa until we are given feedback. It was also decided it should be mapped under Internet and Music as a collection facets.
- The group discussed some DiscoverArchive metadata issues. Currently DiscoverArchive has records with dc.subject.lcsh with Vanderbilt University. In many of these records the subject is not Vanderbilt University which will interfere with the DiscoverLibrary LCSH facet. The group considered changing use of Vanderbilt form LSCH to Sponsor or publisher field when appropriate.
- Open Library Environment (OLE) Project: metadata issues
- OLE is a project lead by Duke and funded by Melon – The current funded project is tasked to create a blue-print for an open source reference system. This build project will create software to replace ILS systems to an open source. Vanderbilt is named in the grant as a participant. Marshall, involved with this project, asked for input on the implication of this system when dealing with metadata, especially in new terms of RDA. A question was raised as to RDA’s affordability for everyone due to the fact it will be published for a fee to recoup costs. Having RDA interpreted as a standard would be helpful.
- OCLC Record issues
- OCLC use policy. OCLC has delayed implementation until June. We would like to be able to use our records in any way we would like. Guidelines for the Use and Transfer of OCLC-derived Records.
- Numbers are off to OCLC.
- The second part of the OCLC project is a reclamation project. We send them our holdings and they will match them updating the records. What we do not send them they will delete. Law is interested in participating. Central government documents will be a challenge and will have to be investigated. We will have to discuss how to include and exclude some sets of documents.
- ALA Midwinter: any metadata issues to monitor?
- Very few people are attending the ALA Midwinter conference. It was mentioned there is a forum to talk about OCLC use policy that would be beneficial to attend.
- The next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 9th.
