LIBRARY MANAGEMENT COUNCIL
January 30, 2006
MINUTES

ABSENT: Frances Lynch

1. Planning for the Center for Academic Life (Paul Gherman)

The Center for Academic Life is a concept for the new library that would draw together various academic support units in the library and help to raise funds for new construction. Dennis Hall is putting together a group of faculty, deans, some library people, and other interested parties that will look at this concept in terms of the future of the library. Dennis has asked LMC members to submit system-wide, space-related questions to him to use as a basis for his committee discussion.

2. Budget Update (Lisa Shipman)

Lisa sent out an email to library directors with the IDS chart. Directors are asked to report back to her after they have talked with their budget officer. They should tell her if she needs to contact their budget officer.

Utilities costs have seen significant increases recently. Since the prices are not expected to go down any time soon we have asked for an exception for those costs. Shipping and mailing charges have also increased. A GIS proposal is also going forward with the exceptions.

3. Performance Evaluations (Lisa Shipman)

Staff evaluations should be done in March and April with an expected completion date by the end of April. If staff members are concerned about writing too much, they can use bullet points. If supervisors have not created job descriptions, then that should occur soon. They should also review and update those descriptions when they conduct this year’s performance evaluations. Revised job descriptions may be sent to Lisa, but that is not necessary.
