Charge Project Team Name: LibQUAL+ 2009

Project Summary/Abstract: The team will conduct a round of the LibQUAL+ survey in spring 2009 and will analyze results and report the findings to library staff. Statement of Need: LibQUAL+ is most effective when it is implemented at regular intervals in order to assess the library’s effectiveness over time and to determine whether efforts to increase patron satisfaction in targeted areas have been successful. The library’s last LibQUAL+ survey was conducted in 2006, so conducting a round in 2009 will continue the 3-year cycle. ''' Project Champion/owner:''' Library Council (LC)

Project leader/coordinator: Sue Erickson

Documentation and Reporting: The project leader will provide periodic reports to the Library Council while the survey is in progress. The team will conduct analysis of the results and will report findings to Library Council. In consultation with LC, the project team will determine how the information will most effectively be shared with library staff. Library Council will determine how information from the survey results is shared with stakeholders external to the library.

Other Personnel involved/required: Celia Walker (Peabody Library), Julie Blagojevich (OUL), Teri Bante (Central Library), Deborah Brooks (Walker Management Library), and Tao You (LITS).

Related Project(s) and Stakeholders: Any other major assessment efforts, particularly surveys of faculty and students will need to be coordinated with the LibQUAL+ Project Team to avoid survey overload and to ensure that duplicative measures and efforts are avoided.

Budget: The registration fee has been paid ($3,200.00) by OUL. Software such as SPSS, NVivo, or Atlas.ti may need to be purchased for individuals on the team who will do the analysis, however Sue and Celia will already have obtained SPSS and Atlas.ti as part of their prerequisite for the ARL Service Quality Evaluation Academy they will attend in early March. The cost of training other team members in these programs may need to be considered.

Timeline: The request for IRB approval will begin no later than December 2008. We expect to begin receiving survey results from LibQUAL+ in June or July and will begin initial analysis during the summer with initial reporting during fall semester 2009. Analysis may continue through the end of the fall semester, depending upon the extent of data received.

Assessment: All marketing strategies for the survey should be documented in detail. The response rates for the survey will serve as the primary measure of effectiveness. If possible, the response rates and marketing strategies should be compared with those from the 2006 survey to determine best practices for future iterations. The team should follow up with Library Council during the academic year to identify what programmatic changes are planned based on results from the survey.
