Meeting Notes
- John distributed a draft of the materials guidelines as received from each of the directors for use in the 2006/2007 budget proposal. These should be reviewed for any desired changes which should be communicated to John.
- John identified journal subscription requests coming from the Center for Teaching. Discussion concluded that it was difficult to fund these with the current budget structure. Future consideration will be given to a larger shared fund or another approach that might be tapped for such needs. In the interim, John will try to identify restricted funds that might be available for use.
- Bill is working with Sue Davis on updating our emergency planning. He will distribute a document that describes the Disaster Response Action Team. Bill asked that each division review its plan to ensure that it is updated.
- Bill indicated that some copiers would be replaced this year. He is also talking with individual libraries about whether scanning locations would be preferable in some cases to copiers. He summarized the discussion of the recent VU Print Steering Committee.
- Flo presented the concerns of the Circulation and Access Committee surrounding reserves and copyright policy. More written public policies are desired. Directors concluded that the University's policy on electronic reserves is clear, and that we would be better off to not try to have more clarification on print reserves.
- The Library will be buying more plastic book bags (for protection when raining) marked with Vanderbilt University Libraries. Directors were asked to indicate how many they would need for a year.
- Flo distributed circulation and access statistics showing proportional school use of the various libraries.
- John mentioned that the vending machine issue, at least through Dining Services, is dead. The cost to the vendor for providing such services was too high to be profitable.
