Meeting Notes
- The CAC charge was finalized; Tracy will take this to the next meeting of CAC. The charge stresses the patron orientation that this committee should have.
- Flo generated a list of activities and topics of the LDC for the last year. These will be included in a report to the Strategy and Planning Council. Discussion about goals for the coming year generated much discussion centering on the purpose of the Library Directors Council. The information exchange made possible through this forum was deemed a major benefit. The degree of authority the group has was questioned and clarified to some extent. Issues about where decisions get make were surfaced. The relationship of LDC to S&PC, OUL, the Digital Library, RSC and others generated discussion and an expression of need for clarification.
It was decided to recommend that some of these issues be discussed further with S&PC, and that LDC formally recommend that the Collections, Research Services, and Circulation and Access committees report to the LDC primarily and secondarily to S&PC as the issues and work are identified as being strategic.
It was proposed that the LDC has a role to play in the bigger question of how the organization can facilitate creative thinking about increasing the libraries' relevance. In the future we should challenge ourselves to have an agenda consisten with that larger question. How should we restructure public service roles and what should the roles be for our new librarians.
- Other items
Card Office follow-through on door schedules has not been good. Manual locking mechanisms may be required as well.
Additional participants were identified for participation in the 'seating sweep' to be conducted this spring.
