Meeting Notes
Present: Martin Cerjan, Paul Gherman, John Haar, Bill Hook, Juanita Murray, Tracy Primich, Holling Smith-Borne, Flo Wilson Absent: Sharon Weiner
- System-wide Collections Responsibility
Discussion on how John’s position will be split after his retirement. John does not believe there will be problem splitting his position. Paul will make an announcement soon.
Discussion on the need for use statistics on some collections since there is a difference in how they are viewed in each library.
- Staff response to performance ranking and further guidance from OUL
There was extensive discussion regarding performance evaluations for this year and how the rankings will be applied for employees.
Merit awards will be given to employees who have been nominated by their director and who have worked on library-wide special projects (e.g., Primo), or those who have completed project within their department.
- Owning library designation for Internet resources
We have received a Recommendation from the Collections Committee that we cease using physical library on internet resources with the exception of Divinity and Law. In the past, we have been cataloging materials listing individual libraries, and we needed to reconsider our methods where records are merged. In the future it will be materials for the internet library only (e.g., e-books). Discussion into how to demonstrate what the owning library has purchased. This will be discussed again next week.
- Wireless access to campus networks
Wireless access to electronic resources can be reached from several areas around campus. The SSID access number has not changed since 2004 and has inadvertently been given to others. This number is for University people only because they can get into licensed databases. There is a need to further evaluate this.
- ACORN login assistance
There has been some confusion for patrons using their VUNet ID to access ACORN. Additional instructions will be given on the web-site for ease of access.
- ACORN enrichment content recommendations needed
This topic will be turned over to the Research Services Committee. It is probably worth reconsideration on incorporating enrichment content into ACORN; it will be a part of Primo.
- Announcements
- Flo will be completing participant committee evaluations. For the Committee Chair Evaluation, send a copy to Flo and another copy to Paul Gherman.
- The budget should be finalized by the end of March. Please review your current budget to see if there will be monies remaining and report this and any expected uses of such funds to Lisa Shipman.
- For next meeting on March 14th we will discuss the vision of OAK.
- For our March 28th meeting Kevin Davis, from Legal Counsel, will be coming to talk about copyright. We need to develop a list of questions and concerns to forward to him ahead of time.
