Meeting notes (Sue Erickson)
Sue outlined a possible project team that would look at systems for creating subject and course guides, a need identified by the Research Services Committee. It was clear from the RSC discussion that flexibility will be a key criteria for a selected system, as will ease of use for both subject guide creators and end users. It was decided that the project team should be responsible for creating the content for training once a system is selected. We hope that the Staff Development Committee can help schedule and advertise the training. LDC agreed that such a project team should be a priority. Sue will draft a charge and will get approval from RSC and LDC. One of the criteria for selection will be interoperability with the system used for managing and delivering the databases (currently a homegrown system).
Celia asked what other library directors were doing for distance education students. Biomedical offers instruction when Nursing students are on campus. They use OAK heavily and also use Centra for online training. The Executive MBA program is a distance program. Students come to campus every other weekend. Teams are assigned a librarian. Divinity gets book shippign requests from dissertation writers and faculty on sabbatical, but they have not granted these due to the problems caused when books are recalled. Law does ship books to faculty.
A brief discussion of the candidates for University Librarian followed.
