Meeting Summary
Bill Hook discussed the plans for the Divinity Library renovation which is planned for this summer. Major enhancements include expansion to the use of both sides of the second floor, creation of subject study areas, four seminar/meeting rooms, many more user seats. The main entrance will be from the breezeway. The main stairwell between Divinity and Central at the Library Lawn entrance will be eliminated, and the circulation desk for Divinity will be located in that spot on the second floor; the stairwells at either end of the lobby corridor will be enhanced and improved to facilitate movement within the two libraries. Turnstiles will be eliminated for both Central and Divinity with door card readers installed to provide for limited access evenings and weekends. Divinity’s hours will be expanded to match those of Central. Project construction will begin right after Commencement and is scheduled to be completed by the time school begins. The Divinity Library will be closed for the summer; staff will be relocated to the Divinity School. Regular and frequent paging of library materials will be provided. As soon as construction prices are known, ordering of long lead-time items such as furniture and carpeting will begin. Plans for moving and shifting collections are being developed.
The Council reviewed and finalized the proposal for a project team to develop a system-wide faculty delivery service proposal. This team will be constituted shortly, and a proposal is requested by the end of April.
The Council also discussed the proposal from the Geographic Information Systems Task Force which is proposing a system-wide service with staffing to be located in the Peabody Library. Questions were raised about the staffing service levels. The Strategy and Planning Council will review the proposal, and a service proposal will be included in the Library’s 2006/2007 budget request as an exception.
Janice Adlington has agreed to serve as the coordinator for our Lib QUAL + survey this coming spring. Library directors were invited to suggest names of other staff who might wish to participate on a project team by Dec. 5; volunteers will be sought after that if needed. The team should be constituted and begin work around mid-December.
