Agenda Items
- Web guidelines
As the library works toward a major redevelopment of the website for 2007/2008, some effort will go into establishing guidelines for development of the libraries' webpages. These, like the University guidelines, will likely be broad in scope and allow substantial variation to serve individual website needs. The Digital Library Steering Committee and Suellen will be seeking input and will be sharing more information as the project develops.
- Faculty delivery service implementation project (sent by email)
John developed a proposal for the faculty delivery service implementation project. The group to be appointed will develop the details of how the service will work and will design a usable interface for requests, take into account the differing staffing availability in the various libraries, consult with Eskind about possible participation, and include participation from someone from the original team that developed the proposal. The proposal asks that the recommendations be completed by the end of October. Discussion was supportive, and a couple of people were identified as possible team participants. This proposal will be reviewed by the Strategy and Planning Council. A position to be filled in ILL will be expanded (from 20 hpw to 40) and the person hired will help with the service design.
- Announcements and reports
- Peabody statistics database screen shots
Flo distributed screen shots of the Peabody statistics database, since access to it, for review by interested directors, is restricted by IP address and not viewable outside of Peabody and LITS. Eskind uses a similar kind of web data gathering tool.
- Thanksgiving (Friday after) plans
Peabody, Management, Music and Special Collections are scheduled to be closed
- Innovation and Creativity Awards nominations--Sept. 11
Lisa would like to have nominations for this award by the 11th of September. The award(s) will be presented at the Library's service awards celebration in early October.
- Directors are encouraged to attend the Friends of the Library sponsored lecture on Sept. 7 from noon to 1 PM in the Peabody Fireside Room. Robert Barsky will be addressing online journals in the scholarly community. We are hoping for a good turnout for this new approach to FOL events.
- Bill Hook invited all to attend the open house in the Divinity Library on October 23 to celebrate the impressive renovation.
- Martin noted that classes have begun in Law. A few modifications have been made to library space with opened up space on the second floor for additional comfortable seating, and converting Mandy Henk's office to a group study room. Mandy's position, redescribed, should be advertised shortly.
- There was some discussion about difficulties with Card Office schedule changes. Year long schedules don't seem to work and reminders are often needed.
- Public Services goals for 2006-2007
At our next meeting, we will have a discussion of library-wide public services goals. Directors are asked to think about this ahead of time and come prepared with ideas, consistent with the overall charge of the Council.
