- Research Services Committee
Sue Erickson discussed the minor editorial changes to the Research Services Committee charge. She requested that the Electronic Resources Librarian be assigned to this committee to replace the Metadata Librarian which position was never filled. She will talk to Roberta about this. Bill suggested that we need to look at the overall structure since the committee now reports to the Library Directors’ Council. Approval of draft of new change.
- Announcements
- ACORN moving to Oracle has made it sluggish. LITS is doing the fine tuning to make it run better.
- Reassessment Request has been approved for work station replacement. This request also included hardware for LITS, preliminary costs for the Archives Annex, and payment for PRIMO. Extensive discussion on how reassessments work.
- ERMS Task Force reports to Strategy and Planning Council. There are some reservations on purchase since no system does exactly what we need, each having limitations. We need to work with a vendor to make sure our concerns about the VERDE product are addressed. There is also a concern about how it will work with Eskind Biomedical Library and their electronic resources.
- Julie Loder will be primarily responsible to work with the respective libraries. There was extensive discussion on the pros and cons of the VERDE software over Serial Solutions. Serial Solutions is a product marketed by SIRSI but it is not fully integrated. This will be discussed at the Strategy and Planning Council Meeting.
- University Librarian position has around 25 candidates. Preliminary one-half day interviews will be scheduled for 6-7 people within the next several weeks but will not be public. Information regarding this will go into the staff news. They have had two conferences with two other University Librarians regarding what type of person to look for.
- Chat Reference
Information gathering and whether we should be look at this closer. Peabody has launched ASK GEORGE. Discussion on whether this should be offered on a localized level or system wide. Peabody will do an assessment in March. There have been 300 hits to the website. Divinity, Science, and Management will not consider this at this point. There seems to be a big commitment of staff time with a small amount of return, but this will be presented to the Research Services Committee.
- Fire Extinguisher Training
Juanita Murray stated that 60 employees will be scheduled for a one-hour Fire Extinguisher Training on March 6th. There will be three sessions throughout the day. The training will be at the General Library Building. Library Directors are being asked to furnish names of who should be trained first in their areas, and the Staff Development Committee will handle the actual scheduling for the first round of training. The second round of training is expected to be scheduled for May/June.
CPR training can be taken by all employees at no cost. The three-hour classes are offered three times per month. Employees must sign up individually at ‘VanderbiltCPR.com’ using their VU NetID.
It is anticipated that Fire Drills will be done in late July/early August before school starts.
- Copiers/Printers
Bill Hook stated that the copier volume is down 15% from last year, and printer volume is up 14% from last year. We will revisit this next year to evaluate whether we have too many copiers. We do not have an accurate picture at this time.
- Sue Erickson briefly discussed the SPEC Kit on Noteworthy New Teaching and Learning, Physical and Virtual Space, and Literacy. She will send out the information for responses. She would like this information by Friday.
