1. Reassessment funding has been approved for replacement of all known GX280 workstations in the system. George will send a list to directors of workstations within their units scheduled for replacement. Directors are urged to review their list and reply soon; the first to respond will be the first scheduled for replacement. Along with this, the roll out of Office 2007 is also scheduled to take place this fall. This will be done in two phases in coordination with two different training events sponsored by New Horizons. The Staff Development Committee has Office 2007 training dates scheduled during October Break (on Oct. 20 and 21) and again in early to mid November. (Online training is also available.) Conversions to Office 2007 should begin two to three weeks before these training sessions. Alternatively, any staff who wish to go ahead and get Office 2007 may do so before the scheduled roll out.
2. The Security Guard Trial is set to start on Sunday, September 21. The proposed schedule has been approved by VPD and the security company. The guard will rotate between libraries (Central/Divinity, Science & Engineering, Peabody, Music, Management) seven days a week. The representative from each library is asked to send Tracy a list of detailed, specific activities for the guard to address while on duty. This list will be presented to the guard on duty and should eventually serve to better assess the effect of the project after the trial is completed.
3. Suggestions for possible changes to the Staff Service Awards were discussed. Each year brief remarks are made for staff who have worked 15 to 40 years. With that list being 19 people this year, suggestions were made to possibly shorten the event. Suggestions were to create a brochure or a PowerPoint display with photos, comments and remarks on each staff member being honored; to call groups of staff in each category (15 year, 20 year, etc.) to the front to be recognized as a group rather than individually; or to set a time limit on comments made about each staff member. These changes are being considered for this year’s Awards ceremony, with the ultimate goal of shortening the total length of the event. The Staff Service Awards will take place at the University Club in mid-October. Lisa will post the announcement for the Innovation & Creativity Award soon also, and Lisa and Celia will organize the event.
4. Celia distributed a list of task completions by the Staff Development Committee for the past year. Two members have rolled off the committee and three new members have been added (Sara Manus, Jared Ingersoll, Jim Kelly).
