1. Announcements:

2. Travel Policy: The Travel Committee submitted their recommendation for a new Heard Library Travel Policy and Guidelines along with a Request for Travel form. Council reviewed and approved the drafts, which will be sent to the Dean for further review. Suggestions were made to create an online version of the Request Form. Questions remain surrounding issues of how travel would be funded, and how and to whom future travel requests should be submitted.

3. University Request for Savings: The University has requested that the Library give back a small portion of the 09/10 FY budget. Council discussed how best to proceed. Each Library is asked to identify a percentage of their individual budgets to give back, using their own discretion in determining which account/budget line to choose from. Flo distributed a handout separating materials and operating budgets for reference. Directors should identify their funds and communicate this with Lisa by October 31.

4. Database Access Restrictions: Frances discussed Eskind’s concerns about non-VU users taking up electronic resources on a database for which they only purchased a limited number of seats. Council discussed the feasibility of restricting resources to VU users only. Once most Library public workstations are formatted to require a VU net ID for login, this should alleviate some users’ accessing the database via other libraries on campus. Council agreed to wait and see how well this affects use before taking further steps.

5. LibQUAL+ Follow-up: Sue requested input from Council on how to move forward with the results of the LQ survey (analyze results further, or investigate other action items out of the results – for example, the website?). Council was asked to review the results and as a group to make formal recommendations for changes or specific action items, and also to consider what additional data-mining the LQ Team can do to address system-wide concerns.
