- Seating sweep
- We now have two years of detailed seating sweep data. A major change on campus this year has been the opening of the Commons. It would be helpful to see if we can identify any particular impact on the distribution of library use as a result. We could do a simple headcount in some librarires rather than the detailed observations. We could do it for a single week (the equivalent of the April week last year), rather than two. Will your library participate?
- Budget update and discussion
Minutes (Regrets: Beth, Celia, Tracy, Holling)
1. Announcements:
- LibQUAL+ update (Sue): The timeline for the LibQUAL survey is Tuesday, March 10 (the week following Spring Break) through the end of March. Potential survey participants will receive an email from the Provost with information on the survey. Incentives will include airfare vouchers, cash prizes (donated); a donation to Second Harvest Food Bank will also be made based on the number of responses. The LQ team plans to submit their application packet to the IRB very soon, and marketing for the survey will begin shortly. Our goal is to reach a 25% response rate; faculty, staff, graduate students, and a sample of the undergrad population are being targeted.
- Retreat follow-up (Flo): Flo has sent the LC information on ARL’s percentages of overall university budgets used for libraries for each of the four peer review institutions. Members should review these charts and discuss with your survey group. Flo will be sending a message to committee chairs requesting that each committee review its charge and update its activities and progress over the past year. The LC will review and assess this information in April. Flo will compile a review of the retreat to share with Library staff. The LC will work to find time during March to convene another meeting (mini retreat). Sue has asked Julie B. to collect data summarizing information on our library service desks for further discussion and comparison to that of the peer institutions reviewed at the retreat.
- Sue reported concerns voiced at a recent RSC meeting where staff were unaware of a problem patron identified at the S&E Library. Although information about the patron was put on the security blog, the blog is restricted to CAC members and directors. Directors should review info posted on the blog and communicate important information to their staff as necessary.
2. Seating Sweep: We will do a seating sweep survey again this year, during the same week as last year (14th week of the semester – April 8-14) in an effort to discern overall user patterns. This year’s sweep will be less detailed, as we are mainly looking to get a head count of users at given times during the week. Individual libraries can choose to do a more detailed review if they prefer. Julie will reconvene the Seating Sweep group soon to notify representatives from each library how the process will proceed.
3. Budget update: The budget proposal was recently submitted, but some additional changes will be needed to reflect the Archives Annex renovation expenditures. We have a short turnaround for getting a budget proposal revision back to the Provost’s Office.
