1. Announcements:
- Candidates for the Music Cataloger and the Outreach Librarian position will be interviewing this week.
- John Bers, Professor in the School of Engineering, teaches a systems engineering course. Students are assigned a real problem to analyze. If you have any projects involving process analysis of some technology, and you like to work with a student group, please speak to Tracy.
2. The Library Council will have a retreat for planning for the future on January 29, led by Dean Connie Dowell. One of the items the council will focus on is a survey of our peer libraries. In groups of four, we will investigate four peer institutions in areas such as campus and community outreach, library services, collections, strategic plan analysis, space usage, digital collections activities, and other areas of interest; each team will then report their findings to the group at the retreat. Flo distributed a handout listing members of each team and suggestions for areas to consider for the survey. If you did not attend the meeting, you will receive a handout via campus mail.
3. Flo discussed information recently received from the Provost about expenditures and budget constraints. Guidelines for travel, entertainment, and large expenditures have become more limiting and explicit. More expenditures will need to be routed to the Provost’s office for approval. Some limits will need to be placed on materials expenditures. Budget restrictions were discussed and directors were asked to review their individual budgets for potential savings. Directors will work together with OUL to try to meet targets for savings as they are provided by the University. Flo will send a general statement to Library staff about the current economic conditions.
