1. Announcements:
- The LibQUAL survey has passed the 2,000 mark for responses. Faculty responses are at 460, and we are aiming for 500. Please try to solicit faculty participation! Dean Dowell may email staff asking them to encourage faculty to respond on her behalf. Survey ends Monday, April 13.
- Reminder: Katie Clark lecture is Thursday, April 9.
- The 3Q report is due to Lisa by Friday, April 10.
- Today is the deadline for travel requests. Please submit to Dean Dowell and copy Flo and Lisa.
- We will have our second All-Staff Meeting on Tuesday, April 21 from 2:30 to 3:30 pm in Nursing Annex room 155. Council members will present their peer review presentations to staff; refreshments will be served afterward.
- Next Tuesday, April 14 is Staff Appreciation Day (National Library Workers Day). Dean Dowell and others will be visiting the libraries.
- Central Library will hold a book sale on Friday, April 17 from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm in front of the GLB. Rain location will be the breezeway near Divinity’s entrance.
- Dean Dowell reported to the group on her recent presentation to Dean’s Council on institutional repositories and DiscoverArchive. This discussion prompted an agenda item for next week’s LC meeting about an audit of print vs. electronic serials.
2. Spring Staff Picnic: This year’s event will be held in the Divinity courtyard and refectory in late May or early June. Library Administration will provide entrées.
3. Professional Activities: Council discussed how to best collect information on staff professional activities (such as conference presentations, national committee chairs, grants, publications, editing journals, etc.) to be made available system-wide for others to review. A bibliographic list could be collected; materials could be submitted electronically to DiscoverArchive if the author has retained copyright. Parameters would need to be set for what should be included in a list; a deadline for submission might be after the end of each academic year. Staff Development Committee will recommend a list of materials for inclusion and send to Council for review.
4. Archives Annex: The Archives Annex has been renamed to 21 North. Progress continues at the new site. Flo will soon post an update to the Staff News that will include a link to photos of the site; tours will be scheduled in the future. Renovation is expected to be completed by June, shelving to be installed during the month of June and materials expected to begin moving in July. Libraries will potentially be able to begin sending materials to the current Annex again by August.
5. Library Council Retreat: Times for good attendance in April or May have been hard to find. The retreat may have to be in June. Please submit your availability to the Doodle survey so a date can be set soon.
6. Library Council Committee Reviews: Council discussed the annual committee review process: how to evaluate committee reports and review past year’s accomplishments and plans for the next year. Flo will send Council links to each committee’s annual report for review. The group discussed options for considering changes to current committee structures. Council was asked to consider these options in light of the future needs of the library and our internal planning process, and to discuss further at a future meeting.
7. Council was reminded to bring ideas for communication vehicles (in addition to the Acorn Chronicle) as well as article ideas for the Acorn Chronicle to next week’s meeting.
