Meeting of November 29, 2005 (11:00 pm – 12:00pm)

(1) Brief update on sfx maintenance project and Heard site maintenance project
The group discussed the recommendations from Suellen (Heard Site Maintenance project leader) for the additional member. Jody will contact the supervisor of the person selected.
Jody is working on the charge for the SFX project and will have something ready shortly.
(2) Continuing where we left off last time: "what do we propose will tie all of our digital initiatives together"?
The group discussed various characteristics of what will tie everything together including the ability for users to go through a primary interface as well as accessing services and/or resources directly from other systems. Characteristics of this "tie that binds" included:
- Ability to integrate with other campus systems
- Need to allow something like browsing of the shelves
- Need to increase visibility on campus
- Ability to feature our services as well as digital collections
The group agreed that decisions on new projects and directions must take into account our core collections (metaphor: Thanksgiving dinner—spend most of our effort on “the turkey”) but not exclude other possible projects automatically.
In order to get a better handle on what projects needed to be addressed in the campus community the group needs to survey the community (focus groups, etc), but we also agreed that we could not afford to do nothing while we gather this type of input.
(3) (if time allows) Review of individual nominations for priorities for the committee's work.
Time did not allow.
No meeting next week since Jody and Marshall will be at CNI.
Action item: For the next meeting: Where do individual priorities fold in?
