Agenda:
- Update on DiscoverLibrary implementation in production web environment.
- Update on Beta-testing Primo version 2.0.
- Update on Primo version 3.0 planning.
Notes:
The Strategy and Planning Council has developed a time-line for implementing DiscoverLibrary into the library's production web environment. This calls for two phases:
- Providing prominent links to DiscoverLibrary on the library's top level web pages (similar to links currently available for Acorn). This should be accomplished in two weeks, with input from Research Services Committee, Test It project team, and the Web Maintenance Group
- Providing a DiscoverLibrary search box for the top level web pages. This should be implemented during Spring Break (first week of March).
- Training for all public services staff should occur the week prior to Spring Break.
- RSC and others will be consulted for final refinements of the initial version of the DiscoverLibrary user interface. We will also develop a process to continue suggesting enhancements and refinements of the service.
- A final decision on the color scheme to be used will be made by Thursday of this week.
- The DLSC committee discussed details of the recommended time-line. The initial user interface modifications are nearly ready. During the course of the discussion, the committee determined that
- it would be better to have more information about this new service on the top level page (e.g., what databases are searched in remote searching, what is included in the local repository, etc.). To accomplish this, we decided that it would be better to use the lower left panel of the native interface to provide links to this type of information. RSC and others will be asked to help develop this documentation.
- that it would be best to retain the comments box from the current AlphaSearch interface to continue to receive comments and suggestions as the service goes into production.
- that we need to include an easy way for users to get to the native Acorn interface.
- Jody discussed plans for beta-testing version 2.0 of Primo (not published here, details will be published later in the OAK Primo course). This will start in March.
- The committee discussed some of the planning for version 3.0 (not published here, details will be published later in the OAK Primo course).
- Bill Hook asked that the DLSC take up the question of where and how to store archival materials we receive from publishers for collections to which we subscribe. This will be taken up at the next meeting.
- The DLSC will continue discussions on the content management issues in coming meetings.
