Communications Committee Minutes – January 03, 2008
Attending: Sue Erickson, Henry Shipman, Suellen Stringer-Hye, Celia Walker, Ava Wilson

Web Ticker:
Added: Renewing materials online and sending library notices to your email
Celia plans to reactivate the Library News Online and ask Holling Smith-Borne for information to add an article about the Global Music Archives. We will also add an article on Acorn Alerts.

Other notes: We are turning the staff news into a blog. We hope it will go live next week. Suellen shared with the group the blog interface. Celia plans to do a training session on how to use the blog, and she has invited staff of the committee to attend these sessions so that they could be back up on maintaining the database. The individual who takes Celia’s place will be in charge of the staff news. Celia also offered to do a blog training session for the library Directors and the Strategy & Planning Council.

Update on the Committee’s Officer Position:
The committee will continue to oversee the library marketing campaign. Celia will continue to chair the Communications Committee for the next month or two and this committee will continue to be responsible for the web ticker. Everything else will be handled by Julie Blagojevich until they hire someone to replace Celia.

Books that Matter Posters:
Until we get the approval of the places for the posters, Henry plans to make samples of the four remaining posters and they will be sent to the appropriate contacts to be approved for posting around campus.

Discover Library Search Box Options:
Creative Services was asked to design the look and feel of the search box for the name, DiscoverLibrary. Paul’s preference for the search box was the British Library look and feel, however once Creative Services drew it up and did a webpage of it, they realized it took up too much space. The idea was to get the look to be smaller, and more portable. Suellen presented an idea of what samples of the DiscoverLibrary search boxes looked like. Suellen and Henry are going to do 3 versions of the search boxes. There was a coloring issue of the search box which is to be resolved. The DLSC needs to brand in two weeks.

Publicity Plan Review:
Celia passed out the Communication’s Committee Publicity Plan. The group has decided to ban the Be Brilliant banners (they were stolen) and go with the Be Brilliant buttons. We will be looking into the pricing for these buttons. We are also looking at mugs and water bottles.
