Communications Meeting April 16, 2009

Attendance: Sara Byrd, Paula Covington, Suellen Stringer-Hye (chair), Tracy Primrich, Michelle Nielsen Ott, Ann Marie Deer Owens, Sue, Erickson, Celia Walker, Robyn Harris

Ticker

• Add item on senior day speaker, Doris Kearns Goodwin

• Add item about use of e-classroom during the end of the semester

• Ticker items will now be updated to the Facebook page’s wall

• We will add an agenda item for a future meeting to discuss expanding our social networking presence with Facebook and the possibilities of twitter, NING and others.

Image for Staff News Blog

• Current banner image in the blog is a winter scene of tree covered in snow; Michelle requested that this picture change since it is no longer winter.

• Michelle will search for some image options and present them to the committee for approval, possibly through a doodle survey. Could be one constant image or might change for the season.

Brown Bag Communications

• Need to decide how to disseminate PowerPoint sides and other information in archiving Brown Bag lunch presentations

• Celia currently manages a page through the staff development committee, but we are unsure people know how to access it. Need to make a staffnews announcement.

• Suellen will create a link to the Brown Bag lunch presentation page on the staff website

• Celia will post to staffnews when Brown Bag lunch material is available on the website.

• There may be future plans to create a separate Brown Bag page separate from the staff development’s page

Staffweb

• Need to decide what to put in image section of staff news after the Katie Clark podcast announcement; Will put up pictures from next all staff meeting

• Suellen will bring the comments from the comments section of the staff web to a future meeting sot eh committee may address issues

LibQUAL+

• 2268 responses which is the most ever; this equal 15% response rate which matches Columbia’s rate.

• Prizes have been drawn, but now publicized ,yet

• Need to have each library put up sign thanking everyone for participating and take down advertisements of the survey

• Possibility of writing articles for national publication

• In the works:

o Marketing committee needs to get press release of the survey to MyVU, ticker, staff news, the Walker blog, and elsewhere? To announce winners of prizes and the monetary and food (11 boxes) donation to Second Harvest. Maybe with a photo op?

o Photo op with winners of prizes for the press release as well?

Other

• May want to use a Tagcloud as a new way to see data. May be used on staffnews bog

• Send interesting graduations stories of Ann Marie

• Posters

o Many comments suggest that we need younger people on the posters

o In the works: posters of a student athlete will be ready for distribution in the fall semester

• Connie will be attending our next meeting on May 7, 2009

o Need to discuss communications vehicle since the Acorn Chronicle is changing focus to donors only, may need faculty publication as well
