Updates/follow up from earlier items Journal invoices are still being reviewed before payment is made.

Training for the ebrary platform used by the Duke University Press e-books will be in the Electronic Classroom on Thursday, February 21st at 12:30. The MARC records for these books have been added to Acorn. There are a small number of books now, but more will be added as part of the pilot project.

There have been no further discussions with Ingram and Microsoft regarding digitizing books since the last meeting.

Mary Prince will be sending information on BE Press for committee members to review. Law would like to consider a subscription.

Ingram’s digital acquisition system, linked with their MyiLibrary platform, would need funding to be put in place. One issue is where the funding would come from. The system is set up so that the second click on a title would prompt purchase of the title. Ideas to think on and consider: ask for a trial period of 6 or 12 months, have a limit on the amount spent on titles and maybe use a discreet subject to test the system.

CareerSearch and Research/Research Both of these products are or were originally databases subscribed to by departments outside of the Library system. A philosophical question is whether or not these are public resources and would we want to include them with library resources? In the case of CareerSearch, the Management Library is sharing the cost with the Career Center, so the database has been included with library resources. Now the library has been asked to manage the license for Research/Research, but not fund the database. Committee members discussed the issue. As a Center for Academic Life, the concept of bringing campus resources together in a single location would be beneficial. The library offers the benefit of providing better access and single service point for such resources. The committee agreed that the Library can manage the license for Research/Research while Sponsored Research continues to pay for the database.

Collection budget increases for 2008/09 Material budget increases for 2008/09 will be less than 4%. Peabody, Central and Divinity will be reviewing journals with faculty input to consider cancellations. Divinity is also planning to review standing orders for possible cancellations. Sue Davis asked if gift processing would increase as there would be fewer funds for selections of new materials. If more gift processing begins, this becomes a preservation issue and Sue would appreciate notice.
