1. Recommendations of subcommittee to provide more information about ejournal subscriptions and packages. The committee discussed nine recommendations to improve the quality of contractual and budgetary ejournal information available to libraries. We agreed to post contractual information about ejournal package subscriptions to a secure database or website. The information would include: cost basis; whether VU or consortial agreement; archival access to paid-for years; beginning date of full text coverage; amount of shared cost and percentage paid by each library; length of contract; cancellation limits; list of titles included. In addition, Technical Services and LITS are working on posting data from invoices to order records to indicate whether each periodical subscription is for print, electronic, or both. Access to other information may need to wait until we acquire an electronic resource management system.
2. ebrary trial. The group discussed responses to ebrary’s academic collection, a set of 33,000 electronic monographs. While no one was willing to commit to the cost (over $11,000 per year), the trial and discussion prompted us to consider the role of ebooks in the library’s collection and our need to introduce more ebook content to users.
