Fin notice report

The report will be generated on June 11, and will be due June 14.

Reserves Training

The two sessions will be on 7/25 and 7/31. Each session will last one hour. Tracy asked that CAC members sbumit the names of staff who will attend.

Fines

Tracy suggested at LDC that fines for overdue books (books only, with no recalls on the item) be eliminated. LDC discussed the matter and asked that CAC also discuss this proposed change. There was a task force convened at a previous date to discuss this question. At that time, the task force rejected the idea of eliminating fines in favor of longer loan periods and longer grace periods. CAC members reflected on concerns with eliminating overdue fines on books. Such as: there is no automated way to bill for books that have not been returned, and there was concern that a lack of overdue fines would mean a rise in unreturned books and therefore a rise in the amount of manual billing. Also, the circulation policies in Acorn would increase in complexity. Some libraries have eliminated overdue fines already, and are comfortable with having no fines. Overall, CAC was comfortable with a library-by-library decision on the elimination of overdue fines for books. Some libraries (Law, Management, Medical) have no fines now. Given that there is no present consistency in this policy, CAC did not feel strongly that conistency should be a deciding factor. The deciding factor should be the nature of the individual collection.

Laptop Contracts

Student contracts for the circulation laptops have been eliminated. As of July 1, 2007, student contracts for laptops will no longer be in force. Contracts for faculty and staff are still in force pending discussion in LDC.
