1) Fines. We have been asked to look at fines, using the following principles.

• Examine where fines could be eliminated on item types beyond books. Eliminate as many fines as reasonable. • For those items where fines remain, simplify the fine structure. Instead of a fine structure that is different item type by item type, designate as few fine levels as possible, and group the fine-able items under common charges.

Fines on some item types remain, and there are some discrepancies between libraries. Each library will review its own fine policies for relevant item types and for potential fine elimination, and at the next CAC meeting, policy reviews will be shared and consolidated. Policies may be viewed at the CAC web site (http://lib1a.library.vanderbilt.edu/circdoc/); see the link to “Current Circulation Maps and Policies.” The link “Circulation Map” is suggested.

2) Changes in purchased access card, update on access group (Sue)

Paid access cards are no longer being sold for the Heard System. Eskind Biomedical continues to sell access only cards, but they provide access to Eskind only. Courtesy cards continue. Groups eligible for a courtesy card are outlined on the Heard page at http://www.library.vanderbilt.edu/access/.

3) Follow-up items from previous meeting.

status of MUS-SPEC: profile eliminated

status of STAFF-OTHR: profile maintained

status of STAFF-BLR: profile eliminated

Has the timing for the setdelinquent report been changed? No, waiting for implementation at LITS.

Are reports now being automatically purged? No, waiting for implementation at LITS.

4) For our edification…

Why do we create a separate reserve record for a faculty member? A long time ago, in a library far far away, social security numbers were display in the public version of Acorn when reserve records were attached to a patron record. OOPS! So, a pseudo-patron record was created for each faculty member who requested reserves. Now, the social security number does not display. There is no reason to use a pseudo record. Starting with the spring semester, reserve records will be attached to the faculty member’s primary record. Pseudo records will be discarded. In the summer of 2010, pseudo records will be reviewed for elimination, and the profile associated with pseudo reserve records will also be eliminated.
